My dear lord! Did anyone catch the Daytona 500 this weekend. I wanted to get in to NASCAR and watch some races this year but give me a break. I was under the impression that NARCAR was a legit motor sport. After watching this race I can see that it is no more then staged entertainment similar to professional wresteling.
In the past when I have watched NASCAR the guys that have the most money to spend on their car usually win the race. Similar to the way the Yankees always win in baseball. While this is a lame method to win a sport at least its all explainable.
This weekends race, The Daytona 500, a "restrictor plate" race, is supposed to use a restrictor plate to limit all the cars to roughly the same horse power. Moves up through the pack are made slowly and require drafting with other cars in order to get ahead. It is supposed to make it a close exciting race.
All race long everything looks to be legit. It takes drivers a long time to reach the front of the pack. Some of the favorites such as Dale Jr. and Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon are looking to be out of it. They are back so far that they will be racing to eek in to the 10 ten but surly not contend for the win. Well all of a sudden there is a yellow flag for mysterious trash or misc car parts on the track. This brings all the hillbilly's favorites right back into the mix.
After the race restarts its obvious that all cars are very similar in power. Tony Stewart is holding a good lead in the turns and even gaining a bit of distance on the straights. People that try to pass are jumping out on their own and clearly falling back with out the assistance of other cars pushing them.
As we get to the final laps of the race the "magic" starts to happen. It was just as if Andre the Giant was choking out Hulk Hogan in a Wrestelmania 3. But suddenly as Hulk Hogan is going to pass completely out and lose the match, he rises up off the canvas and starts pounding away at the enemy. For no explainable reason Dale Jr's car now has the ability to charge out infront of the pack completely under its own power with no drafting assistance. A car that suposedly has a restrictor plate and has been struggeling all day long suddenly comes to life in the closing laps. It's a Miracle. And we can't stop there. The other crowd favorite, Jeff Gordon, that has been struggeling for passing power the last 10 laps now also has unexplainable power out of his machine with no other cars assistance. Yes Folks Hulk Hogan has come back for the victory.
At least the WWF (now WWE) came out and admited that wresteling was fake and for entertainment only. NASCAR still claims that this is a sport that is on the Up and up. Pathetic NASCAR, truly Pathetic!

It was quite strange how alot of cars had power at the end. But if it lasted another 5 more laps, Bush or Martin would have taken it... they all were getting it at the end.

Maybe just holding back during the race more than a sudden advantage.

I have a split decision on this topic.I do not think it is like the WWE,but I do agree on the 5 more laps.Martin could have gotten it.Restrictor plate racing..Dale Jr seems to rule at these races no matter where its at.As far as tony, well I think he just had a great car that day and used it to his advantage. At the end,if someone would have went to the bottom with him,he could have won it.Im not a JR or gordon fan,but I will admit they have some great skills in driving.

Guys, I have been watching/ following NASCAR from a very early age. Growing up just 15 miles from Petty Enterprises it has been a part of everyday life for me. But, now, I have to admit I find it all to coincidental. First, Rusty wins all the MGD sponsored races, ALL of them. Then, Jr. wins the Pepsi 400 and they have fireworks in the shape of the number 8 at the end. Now last October I go to Charlotte and watch the 48 Lowe's car win at the Lowe's Speedway after being a mid-packer ALL night. Now, last night the Lowe's car wins the Busch race and now the wrecks have lined up to put the 48 car upfront at the close of the 600. 11 to go, will "he" pull it off, or does NASCAR realize that it would be WAAAAAAAAY to obvious. Ok, now the leader has crashed with 9 to go. OMG. IT is SOOOOOOOOO RIGGED.
