Successful as a driver of go-karts and modified-midgets, and also as a crew member on a top-caliber late model stock car team, Jonathan Hassler’s dream of becoming a driver in NASCAR’s Nextel Cup influences his every thought and action for his future. As he recently acknowledged the many programs he could participate in to advance his driving career, he made a decision to pursue a path that will create opportunities for college students just like himself—young people with similar dreams, similar passions, and the same hope. Jon is a sophomore at Purdue University studying mechanical engineering. With Purdue’s scholastic body consisting of nearly 40,000 students, Jon was sure he could find other Purdue students that shared his passion for motorsports. Out of his creativity, Opportunity Motorsports was formed.

With perfect timing, Jonathan found his counterpart—Connie Napolillo. Jon approached Connie with his ideas and plans for Opportunity Motorsports; in no time, she was convinced. A new lover of NASCAR and motorsports, Connie has only been involved with racing for four years. However, her visions of working in NASCAR, either for a team or the cooperation, are at full-force. Unlike Jon, who thoroughly enjoys the mechanical aspects of racing, Connie strives to become a profitable negotiator, a public relations specialist for the motorsports community. She is accompanying Jon as the Vice-President of Opportunity Motorsports, managing the relations area of the team. Like Jon, her hopes for the organization are endless, knowing there are students just like her, waiting for an opportunity just like this.

Opportunity Motorsports was founded with enthusiasm and determination. Our goals are to provide experience for students on every spectrum of the racing industry. Currently, we have positions available for graphic designers, event coordinators, pit crew members, mechanics, engineers, website designers, money managers, human relations, and many more. The “O-team” will be produced, coordinated, and maintained by Purdue University students. There will be situations dealing with media, sales and marketing, sponsorships, investments, and donations. Our hopes are to race in at least five USA Modified Series races in Indiana and the surrounding area during the 2005 season. Pending a successful inaugural season, we will make the transition to full-bodied late models in 2006, taking our team members one step closer toward their dreams in NASCAR.

As we search for creative, dedicated students, we are also in need of loyal, willing sponsors, donators, and investors to make Opportunity Motorsports a reality. There is a website full of ideas, facts, and an in-depth business plan for this future sustainable business. If you or anyone you know may be interested in becoming part of the team with endless possibilities to boost your career outlook, gain friendships, and become more knowledgeable of the motorsports business, please contact Jonathan Hassler or Connie Napolillo. They are always looking forward to hearing from new people and hope to provide life-long opportunities today for the stars of tomorrow.
