I have been a life long fan of NASCAR and I can say without a doubt that this is the first time I have been completely disappointed with the way NASCAR conducted their business. I could not believe what NASCAR allowed Tony Stewart to get away with. He intentionally wrecks a person and he has to go to the end of the longest line, what a joke. That accident could have resulted in the “BIG ONE” causing serious damage and or injuries or deaths and all he gets is a smack on the hand.
However the person he intentionally wrecked bumps him (Stewart) a bit and he is “black flagged” and forced to go a couple laps down, how idiotic. I refused to believe that because Stewart is the defending champion and a crowd favorite that he was treated differently than Kenseth.
Up until now I have never liked Matt Kenseth, I didn’t believe he was all that good and then on top of that he was Rookie of the Year when it should have been Jr. Be that as it may, I was very impressed with Kenseth’s statements and how professional he was after the race. He didn’t ad things that didn’t need to be said. He simply stated the obvious, “Stewart wrecked me intentionally”.
Tony Stewart’s comments after the race however, were completely unprofessional. He said something like “he started and I finished it”. Well to me that is not only childish, but very unprofessional. Yes, Matt Kenseth did get him loose early in the race and Stewart brilliantly saved the car from what looked like certain disaster. But, I seem to remember 1 and half laps later Stewart was in the lead. I also remember that Stewart drove up under Matt Kenseth and that is what caused his car to get loose, so who is actually at fault here.
Tony Stewart preached all week about aggressive driving, does this apply to everyone but him. I want to know what race NASCAR was watching because Tony Stewart was the most aggressive driver on the track and the least penalized for it. Tail end of the longest line my butt, that was ridiculous. Tony should have been made to go into the pits and serve a 3 or 5 lap penalty. Why not, NASCAR makes the rules as they go along anyway or at least it seems that way.
I came away from this race feeling very disappointed about NASCAR. When you have a guy like Carl Edwards apologizing and taking responsibility for a wreck that was clearly not his fault and what seemed to be unavoidable shows that there are some truly stand up guys in NASCAR.
Funny thing about all of this is my favorite driver one the race anyhow, but Tony Stewart did not deserve a top 10 finish and in all reality I hope and beg to the NASCAR gods that Stewart’s season is plagued with DNF’s, wrecks, and with any luck an injury that would keep him from ever driving in NASCAR again. I know that seems harsh, but then a man that doesn’t care about his fellow racers to the degree that Stewart showed this weekend deserves the worst possible outcome. I can truly say now that I am a fan of whoever puts Tony Stewart in the wall.
