Anybody else think it was odd the way NASCAR interpreted the rules for being on Pitroad when a caution came out in the race at the Rock? I have been watching that race over and over since last week and still find it to be inconsistent.
First time a caution came out with lead lap drivers caught on Pitroad, they went a lap down, near the end of the race this happened again though, the drivers on Pitroad kept their positions. This is what I don't understand. At the least it seems they should have been on the tail end of the lead lap, at most, they should have gone a lap down as is usually the case.
The reasoning NASCAR gave for this was that the field was frozen at tthe place they were when the caution came out(per the no racing to the yellow rule) this is what I don't understand, if you pit under green, you WILL lose a lot of positions, and they always talk about not getting caught on Pitroad when a caution comes out, yet they then turn around and change the rule during a race. I don't think this was right and think NASCAR needs to get its act together on these rule changes and interpretation of them.
I would like to make it clear that my opinion of this has nothing to do with Kinseth winning, as fast as his car was and the way thee rest of the race went, he would have likely won even if he had gone a lap down or had been placed at the end of the lead lap after the caution I referenced. I'd also like to make it clear that my opinion has nothing to do with Gordon or any of the others caught a lap down with that first incident. My view is purely as a fan who is not happy with the inconsistent interpretation of rules.
